How long can I park on a street in Halton Hills?
Unless a sign says otherwise, on-street parking anywhere in Halton Hills is limited to six hours. The Town's pamphlet says this rule is enforced on a complaint basis.

Unless a sign says otherwise, you can park on a Halton Hills street for up to six hours. From 15 November to 15 April, parking on Town streets is banned between 2 and 6 a.m. so crews can clear snow. Temporary exemptions to both rules can be requested online, and tickets are handled by the Town's own penalty system rather than provincial court.

The Town's parking pamphlet lists the main on-street rules: no parking where No Parking or No Stopping signs are posted, within 1 metre of a driveway or 3 metres of a commercial or public laneway, within 3 metres of a fire hydrant, facing the wrong way or more than 15 cm from the curb, on or over a sidewalk, in a way that blocks traffic, road repairs or snow removal, or to display a vehicle for sale. Commercial motor vehicles may not park on Town streets unless signs allow it.
On a boulevard you may park only on the paved part of your driveway; a vehicle on the grass or hanging over the sidewalk or curb will be ticketed. Parking in an accessible space without a valid permit carries a $350 set fine.
No. Every year from 15 November to 15 April, on-street parking is banned between 2 and 6 a.m. on all streets under the Town's jurisdiction, unless signs say otherwise. The rule is in the Town's Uniform Traffic Control By-law, and vehicles in the way may be ticketed or towed at the owner's expense.
The Town also asks drivers to keep cars off the street during snowstorms so plows can get through.
Request a temporary exemption to the six-hour limit or the winter overnight ban online through the Town's parking exemption portal, or by calling the Clerk's Division at 905-873-2600, ext. 3030, with the licence plate and how long you need. Exemptions are meant for things like driveway repairs, home maintenance, visitors or special events, and are limited to 24 days a calendar year for each licence plate.
Exemptions are not granted to unlicensed or immobile vehicles, commercial vehicles or school buses, or to give a household extra parking for more cars than its driveway holds. Bad winter weather can void an exemption if the car would get in the way of road maintenance.
Overnight parking is banned in municipal lots between 2 and 6 a.m. so they can be maintained, but at selected locations the Town may grant permits that allow overnight parking. Free parking is available in some municipal lots in downtown Acton and Georgetown.
The 2026 Rates and Fees by-law lists overnight permits in parking lots at $51 per space including HST; it does not say what period the fee covers, so check before you apply.
Halton Hills handles parking tickets through its Administrative Monetary Penalty System (AMPS), not provincial court. Pay or dispute a penalty notice through the Town's online portal; to dispute, explain why it should be cancelled or reduced and add evidence such as photos. You have 15 days from receiving the notice to ask for a screening review. If you disagree with the screening decision, you can ask a Hearing Officer to review it before the payment due date, and that decision is final.
Disputing a parking penalty adds an automatic $10 Ministry of Transportation search fee. If a parking penalty goes unpaid, the Town notifies the Ministry and your vehicle permit cannot be renewed.
The Town's 2026 Rates and Fees by-law sets the administrative penalty fees for the year: a $25 late payment fee, a $103 fee for not appearing at a hearing, and a $10 certified document fee.
The Town's Municipal Penalties page still gives the missed-hearing fee as $100; the 2026 fee by-law sets it at $103.
