What the 2026 bill works out to

How much is property tax in Halton Hills per $100,000 of assessment?

The Town's 2026 budget book puts the estimated residential tax at $1,003.89 for every $100,000 of assessed value: $515.80 to the Town, $335.09 to Halton Region and $153.00 to the school boards. That is $48.40, or 5.07 per cent, more than 2025's $955.49. The Town's own part of the bill rose 3.53 per cent.

These are budget-stage estimates. Council set the final 2026 rates in By-law 2026-0041 on 11 May 2026; its rate schedules were not in the copy of the by-law published on the Town's site. Halton Region's own page puts its 2026 cost per $100,000 for Halton Hills at $335.19.

What are the 2026 residential tax rates?

The budget book's example 2026 bill for an average single-family home uses estimated rates of 0.00515803 for the Town, 0.00331393 for the Region, 0.00003696 for Regional waste and 0.00153000 for education, about 1.004 per cent of assessed value in all. On that home, assessed at $638,391, the estimated 2026 bill is $6,408.76, up $308.96 from 2025.

The tax levy by-law says the Town levies separate rates on its urban area (Georgetown, Acton and the hamlets of Norval, Stewarttown and Glen Williams) and its rural area, so a rural bill is worked out on different rates. Halton Region says its waste costs apply to urban residents, with rural residents charged only for the rural services they receive.

What does the Regional part of my bill pay for?

Halton Region breaks down its 2026 cost per $100,000 of assessment for Halton Hills: road operations $36.93, waste management $33.42, public health and paramedics $31.87, housing $27.92, services for seniors $18.31, other services $18.19, conservation authorities and heritage $8.22, and smaller amounts for property assessment, children's services, development, employment and social services and small business. That is $196.35 for Regional services plus $138.83 for police, $335.19 in all.

Paying your bill

When is property tax due in Halton Hills in 2026?

The interim bill, mailed in early February, was due in two instalments on 27 February and 30 April 2026. The final bill, mailed in early June, is due on 30 June and 29 September 2026.

Payment must reach the Town by the due date. Unpaid balances are charged 1.25 per cent on the first day of each month after the due date, and a returned payment costs $45. Owners are responsible for getting their bill even if it does not arrive.

What happens if I miss an instalment?

Under the 2026 tax levy by-law, any unpaid part of an instalment is charged a penalty of 1.25 per cent of the unpaid amount, added on the first day of each calendar month the default continues. If an instalment is missed, the instalments after it become payable at once. Partial payments go first to the oldest penalties and taxes, and only then to the current year.

How can I pay my Halton Hills property tax?

Most owners pay through their bank, by online or telephone banking, at an ATM or at a branch; allow at least three business days for online or telephone payments. You can also pay by cheque, use the third-party service Plastiq to pay by credit card (it charges its own fees), or have your mortgage company collect and remit the tax for you.

Can I pay automatically?

Yes. The Town offers three pre-authorized plans, with withdrawals on the last business banking day of the month: a monthly plan of ten payments from January to October, an instalment plan that takes each payment on the due date, and an arrears plan for owners paying down a past-due balance over 12 months. Sign up, change or cancel through the property tax portal, or send the application form with a void cheque to the Town's Corporate Services.

The Treasurer can remove you from a plan if two instalments in one tax year are not honoured by your bank.

How do I see my bill and balance online?

Register on the Town's property tax portal to see your bill, account balance and payment details. You need your roll number, the access code printed on your tax bill, and the owner's name exactly as it appears on the notice.

Grants, rebates and deferrals

Is there anything for farm owners?

The Town's Farm Deferral Program lets owners of land classed as farmland put off their taxes and pay them later in a single instalment, usually in the fall, to ease cash flow through the planting and growing seasons.

The 2026 tax levy by-law makes final taxes on land classed as farmland payable on 29 September 2026.
