Halton Catholic board projects 67% more elementary students in Halton Hills by 2040 as Vision Georgetown fills
The Halton Catholic District School Board's 2026 capital plan shows students at the new Georgetown West CES from 2027 and plans boundary reviews for a Vision Georgetown kindergarten-to-Grade 12 campus. Acton's St. Joseph CES is projected to hold steady.
What the plan is
The Halton Catholic District School Board's Long-Term Capital Plan projects enrolment 15 years ahead and lists the boundary reviews, additions and new schools the board may pursue. The 2026 edition was presented to trustees on June 16, 2026 as an information report and is the third annual update to the board's 2023 plan. Its recommendations are planning guidance, and the board says the project timelines are guidelines that may change. Because of the provincial moratorium, the plan identifies no school closures or consolidations anywhere in the board.
In Halton Hills the board runs five elementary schools and one secondary school, Christ the King CSS, which together form the Christ the King family of schools. Holy Cross CES and St. Francis of Assisi CES serve Georgetown's older north end, St. Brigid CES and St. Catherine of Alexandria CES serve the newer south, and St. Joseph CES serves Acton. These schools also serve the rural north part of Milton.
The growth ahead
- 2,666 to 4,454 students, about 67% growth; utilization rising to 186% by 2040
- 1,512 to 2,428 students, about 61% growth; utilization from 102% to 164%
- Projected 1,955 students by 2040 in a building rated for 573, or 341%
- 377 to 378 students; no change projected
- Rated for 527 students; projected 542 in 2027 and 670 by 2040
The board attributes the growth to the Vision Georgetown Secondary Plan in southwest Georgetown. It notes that a modified version of the plan was approved in January 2024 through an Ontario Land Tribunal settlement and expects mostly low- and medium-density homes that yield many students. Those students are to be held at St. Brigid CES until a new elementary school is built, which is why its projected numbers climb so steeply. The board also expects growth in the medium to long term at St. Catherine of Alexandria CES from the Southeast Georgetown Secondary Plan area. It is watching student yields around the Georgetown GO station area and downtown Georgetown.
Georgetown West CES and Holy Cross
Funding for the new Georgetown West CES was announced in 2023-24, according to the plan. On June 17, 2025, trustees approved a boundary review committee's recommendation setting its attendance boundaries and addressing crowding elsewhere in Halton Hills. The board's projections first show students at the school in 2027. The plan also says Holy Cross CES is scheduled for renovations during the 2027-28 and 2028-29 school years, and its students will attend Georgetown West CES during that time.
What the board recommends next
- Within one to five years: a boundary review to set boundaries for Vision Georgetown #1 CES, which will be part of a proposed Vision Georgetown kindergarten-to-Grade 12 school campus.
- Within one to five years: work with Halton Region to create new child care spaces at elementary schools in Halton Hills.
- In six to 15 years: boundary reviews for Vision Georgetown #2 CES and for Vision Georgetown #1 CSS, the secondary school on the proposed campus.
- At Christ the King CSS: keep monitoring enrolment and programs in the short term.
The plan's renewal timetable lists work at Holy Cross CES and St. Catherine of Alexandria CES in 2027 and 2028, at St. Joseph CES in 2027 and at Christ the King CSS in 2028. Its 2023 recommendations, still shown in the plan, said an addition may be needed at St. Catherine of Alexandria CES.
How to weigh in
The board says community members can give feedback on the 2026 plan through its School Planning website, where the full plan and each section are posted. It also plans a virtual Community Planning and Facility Partnerships public meeting at a date still to be set.
